Founded in 1983 to serve the gay and lesbian community, SATB is a not-for-profit society whose purpose is to promote square dancing in a gender-neutral environment. Casual, friendly, and progressive lessons, teach dancers the moves required to enjoy this activity worldwide. SATB is a member of the Fraser Valley Square and Round Dance Association, the Canadian Federation of Square Dance Clubs, and the International Association of Gay and Lesbian Square Dance Clubs.
The dress is causal, no experience or partner are necessary and the fun is infectious. This is a great activity for couples to learn together and, for singles, an opportunity to socialize with a diverse community you might otherwise not meet.
Squares Across the Border is a proud member of the IAGSDC® and has had the pleasure and privilege of hosting the following IAGSDC® Annual Conventions:
7th - Northstar Promenade, April 1990
18th - Make Magic, April 2001
29th - Dance Up a Storm, July 2012
Annual conventions are four days of non-stop fun where dancers from all over North America, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and elsewhere, gather to dance. There is dancing from morning to night, for the freshest of newbies or the most seasoned of long term dancers, and every dancer in between. Banquets, pool parties, city tours, piano lounge sing-a-longs or simply catching up with friends fills the weekend up with great memories.
Membership Information
SATB membership fee is $30 per year, renewed annually in September. A portion of this fee is payable to the Fraser Valley Square and Round Dance Association for membership in that association, the BC association and the national association. This fee also provides insurance to all dancers and our club caller.
The remainder of the membership fee stays with Squares Across the Border to pay IAGSDC® dues, and any other necessary expenses for the efficient running of our club.
You must be a paid member in order to vote at the SATB AGM.
Dance fees for the September to December 2017 session are presently $170. This amount is subject to change, depending largely on the rental cost of dance space and the cost of professional callers.
